Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Spotlight: Anjali Nair

Designer and art director Anjali Nair displays a dynamic sense of design in her work. Nair’s roots originated in India, where her family is based. Her knack for design manifested at a young age, leading her to enroll at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, where she received her Bachelor in Design.

Nair was a graphic designer for various outlets like GCD Studio and The Caravan Magazine. She decided to expand her design palette by relocating to the United States. The designer attended the Maryland Institute College of Art and received her MFA in graphic design. Her time in Maryland was fruitful, culminating in working at NBC News Digital and Hyperakt. NBC opened doors as she worked for MSNBC as the editorial designer.

Her work culminated in her position as the art director at WIRED Magazine. Nair’s work in the graphics world hasn’t gone unnoticed, receiving recognition from institutions like Adobe, Print Magazine, and GD USA.

Anjali Nair put a different spin on graphic design with her unique and industrial take. Design and communication have allowed her to shift the field’s ideals and open new lanes. She is laying a path for more Asian designers to take their place. So, I say, “Ms. Nair, we thank you for setting a new standard for graphics.”
