Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight: Ariana Escobar
Ariana Escobar used her multiple disciplines to brand the world. Escobar started her life in Venezuela as the daughter of agronomic engineers. The youngest of three took on aspects of her parents — her disciplined painter father and a heartfelt cook. Her family fostered her artistic talents. The multifaceted artist forged an art career by attending the ARS Animation Studio & School, where she studied animation.
Following her time at ARS, Escobar continued to push her art studies by majoring in communications at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. She eventually ventured into interactive design by obtaining her master’s degree from U-tad. Studying in multiple disciplines worked in her favor after shifting her focus to the lucrative product design industry.
Escobar increased her profile by interning at Harper’s Bazaar and Experimenta Magazine. Her internships translated to high-profile gigs at companies like Hipertextual and Salesforce in UI and product design.
Outside of her work as a professional designer, Escobar spent her free time creating experimental paintings and documenting her travels and nature through photography. She even turned her mother’s recipes into a digital cookbook during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ariana Escobar uses her keen art sensibilities and design discipline to bring products and brands to life. As she keeps working, her work shapes and influences the design landscape for upcoming Latin designers. Her works continue bringing culture, technology, and formal design together. I will say, “Ms. Escobar, we appreciate your dedication to expanding and diversifying the design world.”
Living in quarentine has forced me to reconnect with my small pleasures in a year in which I was thinking big, rather than small.
